How do you capture the deep bond between people and their pets, and preserve that bond, in some capacity, for a whole lifetime? This week’s presenter Michelle Crandall of Pets in Focus invited us behind the scenes of her shoots, and straight into the paws of her work. Her business is about far more than cute photo sessions; though the outcomes can be very cute. Every session, she shared, is about slowing down, being present, and celebrating love and joy to create something genuinely unique and beautiful.
Michelle walked us through her five-step workflow — Inquiry & Connection, Planning Session, Portrait Session Day, Artwork Selection, and Delivery — showing how she guides her clients through an experience that’s personal, intentional, and joyful from start to finish.
Unlike a quick photo shoot, Michelle’s sessions are designed to create artwork that holds meaning. There’s a big difference, she noted, between a $300 session and a $3,000 session — and that difference lies in the depth of connection, customization, and craft. Full appreciation for that difference can also require the right client, which she highlighted for us.
🐾 The Perfect Pets in Focus Client:
- Sees their pet as family, not just a companion
- Has a new or older pet they want to honor Is celebrating a new home, remodel, or life chapter
- Values quality, artistry, and emotional connection over speed or convenience
Michelle reminded us that when we refer someone to her, we’re not just helping book a session — we’re helping them hold onto something irreplaceable: the love of their best friend.
