Most creative professionals hit a version of the same wall at some point: the work is good, the range is wide, and the hardest question isn’t how to make more — it’s how to present what already exists in a way that actually converts.
Jeremy Rheault of The Art Jar brought that question to Border 2 Border this week, and he brought it honestly.
The Art Jar is Jeremy’s Westland, MI studio that has been outputting custom fandom signs — bold, hand-painted, layered assemblages built for man caves, bars, basements, and offices, including team logos and comic memorabilia — since 2017. He also does commissionable fine art, art instruction for kids and adults, logo design, and social media management. The website he showcased this week reflected real progress in showcasing all of this quite elegantly: cleaner hierarchy, better categorization, and a stronger first impression about the breadth of Jeremy’s skills overall.
The candid part came next. Jeremy openly shared his internal tensions that anyone with a broad creative portfolio will recognize: the fandom sign work is popular and visually striking, but its sheer volume can overshadow the full depth of what he offers as a professional artist and instructor, where most of his passion still lies. While making transparent headway in our discussion, he still left the question open, and welcomed input from the group.
It’s a real strategic question, and not a simple one. Do you show off your prolific collection for its shear size and breadth? Do you lead with what sells and draw people in? Or do you lead with what you value most, and let presentation hierarchy speak for itself? For a creative with Jeremy’s breadth, the answer probably lives somewhere in-between the three of these — artfully in-between — and it’s worth a thoughtful conversation.
If you have perspective on how creative businesses best present themselves online — or if you’re simply in the market for standout custom artwork, fandom pieces, or art instruction — Jeremy Rheault is worth connecting with. He’s clearly open to the conversation.
And if Wednesday mornings at 7am with Border 2 Border Business Connections sound like your kind of room, come find out. We’d love to have you with us.
