One thing this group has found after more than $1.5 million in referred business over four years, is that our ability to refer valuable business to each other is directly proportional to how well we know our B2B colleagues. As our knowledge of each other’s strengths and interests grow, so does our confidence in trusting them to help our friends and neighbors.
This week’s presenter, our group’s estate planning attorney and current Vice President George Remy of George Remy Law, pulled a bit of double-duty—running our meeting for his first time with our President remote, and also delivering our 10 minute feature. As one of our newer members to the group, he decided to share more of his story today.
George was born and raised in Metro Detroit by a couple of loving supportive parents. In an unfortunate twist however, early in George’s childhood, his Dad suffered a debilitating work accident that took away his ability to walk, and to work. This injury, and helping his mom to take care of his dad, ultimately has shaped much of George’s life.
In addition to instilling a passion for helping people get or keep what they justly deserve, this also guided many of George’s practical life decisions.
After a good few years away for college at Central Michigan, George came home to pursue his law degree at a smaller school in nearby Ann Arbor, where it would be easier help out his parents. In Ann Arbor, he met his wife Leslie, who has now long worked for one of our other members, serving as his connection into Border 2 Border.
Fresh out of law school in the literal bottom of our 2008 crash, he was encouraged to start working for himself right away since most never do, and there would be no ‘better’ (or more socially-acceptable) time to be broke.
He started right out taking work he knew he could handle, but quickly gravitated towards estate planning work. The amount of help he could proactively provide a family, without the ugly downsides that his colleagues in other disciplines deal with regularly, was great! Also, by this time, his father was needing a lot of support, and George being his own boss gave him more flexibility to help.
This went on for a number of years, but sadly George’s Dad did pass from this earth in 2017, soon after the birth of his and Leslie’s youngest daughter.
Around this time George went to practice for a friend who was starting their own firm. After spending some time there, he went to work for a nonprofit whose mission he greatly supports, while still practicing his estate planning also.
George currently lives with his wife, three daughters, and his mother too—or as George puts it, “I like to go fishing.” Jokes aside, he is highly supportive and involved with his daughters’ successes.
One of them even does art classes with another B2B member! That member, professional artist Jeremy Rheault of The Art Jar has also since completed a commissioned piece commemorating George H Remy Jr (George’s father) for George III’s whole family to enjoy.

While we were light on technicals and jargon this week—it’s wonderful to be reminded of the human stories that animate everything we decide to do. For an estate planning attorney who cares about your legacy, connect with George today!
