In a world that often demands conformity, embracing individual strengths can lead to unexpected success. Everyone has something to offer—even when it’s not obviously apparent.
Our presenter Crystal Birchmeier, owner of Happy Hooves Wellness, brought this concept to life today, delivering an engaging presentation on the unique contributions and personalities she experiences with some of her favorite colleagues—the horses.
For 2025, Crystal is incorporating a theme in her business for the first time, which she shared with us today:
If we assume that the horse is giving 100% every day…what does that change?
By assuming that every horse is giving their 100%—regardless of their differences—Crystal demonstrated with a few examples, how perceived weaknesses might be re-framed as unique strengths. Whether it’s Tinkerbell’s “stubbornness” being re-framed as deeper processing, or Max’s somewhat defiant aggression being channeled into a fun experience with a client, a keyboard, and some cookies—recognizing and valuing each other’s unique strengths can enhance well-being for us all. Each horse, just like any person, offers something special when their capabilities are acknowledged and nurtured.
To end her presentation, Crystal shared a magnificent story about a group she was coaching on the farm, and how her horses could sense the group’s positivity and warmth to the point that they came to the edge of their enclosures, unsolicited, to join the group’s closing circle, in shared celebration of the acceptance that everyone there felt.
This principle of acknowledging individual effort and capability isn’t just for animals; it applies to humans in the workplace and beyond. By fostering an environment where everyone’s “100%” is valued, we can unlock greater potential and deeper connections too.
