How Good Neighbors Can Make for Good Fences Too

by | Sep 24, 2025 | Member Spotlights | 0 comments

This week’s presentation came from John Tiechow of Top Rail Fence Ann Arbor, who reminded us that while fences are everywhere, most people don’t think about them — until they need one. That’s where referrals make all the difference.

Right now, John’s goal is to grow the share of his business from local network referrals. While lead services and online ads provide some business, they come at a cost and with low conversion. What really drives his success is word-of-mouth — people like us noticing opportunities and making introductions. He provided us with some situations where this might be appropriate.

🔎 When to Think of Top Rail Fence:

  • A friend just got a dog 🐶
  • An old fence is falling down
  • A neighbor says, “Our backyard feels too exposed”
  • Someone is putting in a pool 🏊
  • An HOA is pressuring a homeowner to fix their fence
  • Families worried about kids or pets getting out

🤝 Making Referrals Easy:

  • Get permission: “I know a fence pro who can help, want me to connect you?”
  • Share John’s info via text, email, or his webform
  • Leave a Google review — it helps future clients trust his work

Fences don’t just provide privacy or security — they finish projects, boost curb appeal, and protect what matters most. With Top Rail Fence, clients get a professional who’s reliable and stands behind his work.

📣 Next time you hear someone mention privacy, kids, or pets — think of John Tiechow at Top Rail Fence! And if you’d like to meet more professionals dedicated to doing great work in our community, join us at Border to Border Business Connections.
