The products people put on their skin have always reflected the era they lived in. Nikki Calloway, Arbonne consultant and this week’s Border 2 Border presenter, walked the group through the distinct decades of a century of that evolution — and got to a place that ultimately could appeal to everyone listening.
Skincare has come a long way. From the elaborate nightly routines of the early 1900s, to the first awareness of UV damage mid-century, to the “natural beauty” movement of the 1970s and the anti-aging boom of the 1980s, each era shaped what people expected from the products they used. Some of it held up. Some of it didn’t.
When Arbonne entered the market in the 1980s, it came with a clean-ingredient philosophy that was way ahead of its time, and that most have now spent the last 40 years just catching up to.
What’s happening in the market now though is something genuinely new. Men’s skincare has grown significantly in just the last few years, with over half of men now using skincare products regularly — a number that was at fewer than a third, only recently. Younger men in particular are driving demand for premium, natural, and organic options, with acne care leading as the primary concern.
Nikki’s point was straightforward: if you have men in your life — a partner, a son, a brother, a friend — who haven’t thought much about skin health, this is a good moment to introduce the conversation. Clean, effective products exist, and the stigma that once kept men away from the category is fading fast. It’s the largest organ we have, our body’s outer shield. Men, let’s protect it!
If you’d like to learn more about Arbonne’s skincare line for men — or explore what clean-ingredient skin health looks like for anyone in your life — Nikki Calloway is a great resource. Reach out and start the conversation.
And if Wednesday mornings at 7am with Border 2 Border Business Connections aren’t yet part of your week, we’d love to have you come see what it’s all about.
