Strengthen Your Legacy with an Impactful Letter

by | Dec 13, 2023 | Member Spotlights | 0 comments

Would you like for your ideas and values to live on past not only you, but also beyond your wealth and material goods?

Maybe you want to be sure that someone close eventually knows your full appreciation or feelings toward them, if it’s something hard to say. Maybe you want to remind loved ones of the values that helped build the estate you are passing on, for them to hold true for another generation.

Today’s presenting member, Matt Bowden of RFC Financial Planners shared an innovative service to help his clients toward these ends. His firm is offering to help clients craft thoughtful letters to their loved ones for after their passing as part of their long-term planning process.

The prospect of death is still uncomfortable for many so the letter crafting and vault storage is purely voluntary. It isn’t for everyone but can be invaluable for some—a truth expressed plainly by the broad range of response within the room. One of our members was instantly in the ‘not for me’ camp regarding the idea, while another teared up briefly about how impactful something like that would have been in her own family.

To open the presentation, Matt had us quickly walk through an exercise he does with these clients to get them thinking about what they value and want others to know or remember. Without giving away his exercise, it truly did help stimulate thought about not only what we want after death, but also what we want in life, to be remembered.

Despite sounding like a somber topic, both presentation and discussion around it were honest, warm, and entirely light; putting a reflective but hopeful exclamation mark on an already-solid meeting.
