The right roofing is critical to your home’s continual safety and preservation. Structurally regulating what gets in—and what gets out—is a key aspect to keeping everything you own standing and dry. This week’s presentation by B2B Member Scott Doree, owner of Andor Maintenance Solutions, offered a clear and practical overview of residential roofing — when it’s time to replace, what’s involved and important in the process, and why having the right crew matters.
To start, Scott explained that roofs are typically replaced for a handful of common reasons:
- Insurance letters or damage claims
- Mold growth
- Active leaks
- Staining or soft areas
He then started his explanation of the process by mentioning the major components of a roofing system:
- Boards
- Underlayment
- Nails
- Shingles
- Flashing, caps, ventilation

And gave a brief outline of his group’s service process—above and beyond the basic level, but standard for every one of their jobs:
- Material & disposal planning
- Removal of existing shingles
- Wood replacement as needed
- Underlayment installation
- Shingling
- Capping and ventilation
- Full clean-up
“We always leave the space the same or better than we found it.”
Scott emphasized the importance of comprehensive preparation and proper ventilation. Many modern homes are tightly sealed but poorly ventilated — a common cause of mold in attics and other enclosed spaces that could be mitigated with better planning and testing.
As an example of the importance of preparation, he mentioned a recent job on Plymouth Municipal buildings where extensive prep work, ventilation attention, and material handling logistics made for a complex but successful job completing an entire complex roof with 22 workers in one day—where over 70% of time had been devoted to prepping the old structure. He noted that with fewer structural issues and less preparation, the same job could’ve been completed by a much smaller crew—but that significant issues would have arisen in very little without proper care.
If you or someone you know is considering roof work or simply wants an expert opinion on their current outlook and best course of action—Scott Doree of Andor Maintenance Solutions is a helpful, trustworthy resource.
