A great perk to being in a network of business and trade professionals is the feast of usable industry-specific knowledge you get on a regular basis.
Today our feature presenter Morgann Dehn of John Avery State Farm gave her insider’s insights on key policy riders and endorsements she would include in her own policy, and would highly recommend for anyone else:
First, Personal Articles is a critical add-on for anyone possessing anything of notably significant value—jewelry, collectibles, antiques, technology, etc—in their home. Most home policies have sub-limits for certain types of valuable good, and this endorsement ensures their true value is protected, with little or no deductible on the claim.
Another key endorsement to include is one that Morgann recently dealt with personally—Backup of Sewer Drain. Due to a child flushing an item in her home, the sewer backed up and the water caused $15,000 in damages. Because she hadn’t been leading the purchase back when her own insurance was written, and because it was water damage caused by an external obstruction, they were themselves on the hook when the bill came. This rider could have prevented that.
Similarly, Home Systems Coverage can cover up to $50k to replace HVAC and key mechanical components and a Service Line Endorsement protects from damages to cable and sewer lines running into the home. Identity Restoration and Cyber Event coverage help greatly against the rising threat of cyber crime, and Short Term Rental is the surest way to be covered in case of damage by any paying guest—a condition that could otherwise invalidate your claim.
For vehicles, Morgann also recommended Rideshare coverage or work coverage for the same reason given above, and Rental coverage because those costs can escalate quickly with a long-term repair and are not typically otherwise covered.
