What is that Great Online Insurance Rate Really Buying?

by | Dec 20, 2023 | Member Spotlights | 0 comments

We’ve all seen the commercials. Allegedly you can always go online and find a better—sometimes bottom-dollar—plan, for less. But can you?

Our feature presenter today reported on going to get that bottom dollar rate quote, to see what it would really include. And unlike most insurance shoppers, Morgann Dehn of John Avery State Farm thoroughly understands insurance. She used an online tool to get an (allegedly) legal policy quote down to $45/mo—a solid fraction of what most of pay, easily.

But what did that $45/mo buy?

  • Minimum liability coverage
  • Waived medical coverage
  • No at-fault insurance coverage
  • No property coverage

At a glance this sounds bad, probably, but what is the real issue with each?

Minimum liability

The quoted policy only covered $50k per individual up to $100k for the vehicle in total. This is essentially nothing if an at-fault crash produces any need for major surgery or long-term care.

Waived medical

You can waive medical coverage in your auto insurance if it is indeed covered by your medical—but the tool seems to have defaulted to this in an effort to keep down quoted rates, which could really leave someone in a bind without knowing.

No at-fault insurance coverage

Most insurances might account for who was at fault in some way when paying out benefits—but this plan wouldn’t pay out any for damages with the driver at fault.

No property coverage

And the same goes for any state-owned property that gets damaged, including mailboxes and signs.

With all of the costs added up, in the unfortunate event that someone gets seriously injured with you the driver at-fault, the tab can get into deep six or even seven figures. And since most people don’t really have that money—they can go after assets and garnish future wages too. The most compelling aside of the presentation was Morgann’s mention of being educated by someone who had gotten into insurance because they were still paying in their 40’s for a mistake they made as a teen.

Thankfully, with a professional like Morgann in your court, you can go into your plan highly educated and highly confident about what it is that you’ll receive. To get a smart quote for comprehensive coverage that will meet your needs, connect with her today.
