What’s in a [Company] Name?

Today’s speaker, Matt Hall of Hierank Marketing Solutions took us on a detailed tour of his company’s origin story:

After an engineering education and about 7 years of professional sales, feeling a bit stagnant in his role as-defined, Matt decided to sit down on Jan 1, 2017 to type college football scores into spreadsheets to add some arithmetic clarity to an insanely tumultuous Big Ten season.

At the end of what felt like a forever-compounding project, Matt had built what turned out to be an impressively astute college football power ranking algorithm.

At this point, the algorithm needed a name. His “hierarchical” “ranking” system needed a name. A fitting name. But what to call this “hierarchical” “ranking” system? Ah!

From there, Hierank, then dubbed “The Season’s Final Score” got an annual build, always producing picks that did well in bowls.

That’s how it seemed it might stay; until the world was hit with a certain virus.

Then, suddenly laid off from the pandemic, and inspired by the publishing/agency model of his prior employers, Matt decided to launch Hierank Marketing Solutions in 2020 as the primary revenue agency arm of the Hierank project.

Since then, the power ranking algorithm has been on the shelf, waiting to be dusted off again, but Hierank Marketing Solutions has served over 100 clients at more than 300 jobs.

Connect with Matt to get the marketing materials you need, and join us next week for another great 10 minute presentation like this one!
